What is the Smiling Cat meme?
Smiling Cat is a close-up of a white-and-tabby kitten staring straight into the lens with enormous, glossy black pupils and a mouth that curves up into an almost human grin. The whiskers fan out, the head is tilted slightly forward, and the overall effect sits somewhere between adorable and slightly unsettling. That mix is the joke: the cat looks like it just heard the best news of its life, or like it knows something you do not. People use it for pure, quietly smug happiness, the face you make when a plan works out, a test gets cancelled or someone else gets blamed for the mess.
Also known as: Happy Smiling Cat, Grinning Cat, Smiling Kitten.
How to use the Smiling Cat meme
Top box sets up the situation, usually starting with "when" or "me when". Bottom box delivers the good news that triggers the grin. The cat should be the reaction to something small but deeply satisfying, so understated wins tend to beat huge ones.
It also works for a sly, knowing smile: you got away with something, you saw a twist coming, or you are about to do something mischievous. Keep both lines short, because the cat's face fills the frame and long captions cover the eyes, which are the whole point.
