What is the Almost Politically Correct Redneck meme?
Almost Politically Correct Redneck is a photo of a shirtless young man with a long mullet and a scruffy beard, leaning on the side mirror of a red pickup truck with a piece of straw hanging from his mouth, looking off into the distance. Every caption gives him a surprisingly open-minded, modern opinion in the first line, then undercuts it with a second line that shows he still hasn't quite got it. The joke is the self-sabotaging pivot: he is clearly trying, and the punchline lands because his good intentions run straight into his small-town habits.
Origin: The macro was a popular advice animal on Reddit around 2012. The man in the photo was later identified as a photographer who worked at Indiana University.
Also known as: APCR, Almost Politically Correct Redneck Meme, Redneck Truck Guy.
How to use the Almost Politically Correct Redneck meme
Put the progressive, reasonable statement in the top box, written sincerely. The bottom box is the backfire, introduced with "but", "still" or "as long as", where his roots show.
The classic captions balance a thoughtful setup with a clumsy, mostly harmless twist. Keep it about his rural lifestyle, trucks, hunting, sports loyalties or food rather than punching down at real groups; the character is funnier when the joke is on him. Short, conversational lines match his drawl.
