What is the Chef Skinner Reading a Letter meme?
Chef Skinner Reading a Letter shows the tiny, sharp-nosed head chef from Ratatouille holding a pink letter up to his face, his tall white toque towering above him and his eyes narrowed in suspicion as he reads. In the film he grows more and more furious line by line, and the still captures that slow-building irritation. The meme frames anything that is infuriating to read: a vague email, a passive-aggressive note, a rejection letter, a group chat you were not supposed to see.
Origin: The clip is from Pixar's Ratatouille (2007), where Skinner reads the will of the late Chef Gusteau and realises it threatens his control of the restaurant. It became a popular GIF caption template around 2021.
Also known as: Skinner Reading, Ratatouille Letter, Skinner Reading the Will.
How to use the Chef Skinner Reading a Letter meme
The top box usually starts the setup ("me reading", "my boss reading") and the bottom box names the document or message being read. Read together they form one line, like the default example.
It fits anything where the content slowly gets worse the more you read: terms and conditions, a contract, a long text from an ex, a code review full of comments, patch notes that nerf your favourite character. A specific, recognisable document makes it land.
