What is the Chocolate! (SpongeBob) meme?
Chocolate! is a close-up from SpongeBob SquarePants of a wild-eyed fish screaming with his mouth stretched open, his bulging yellow eyes covered in red veins and his hands pressed against the window glass. He is a man so desperate for chocolate that the word explodes out of him at full volume. The image is used for any overreaction to good news or a craving: someone hears that their favorite thing is available and completely loses composure. It captures that specific mix of joy and madness better than a normal happy face would.
Origin: The character appears in "Chocolate with Nuts", a 2002 SpongeBob SquarePants episode in which SpongeBob and Patrick go door to door selling chocolate bars and he shrieks at them through his window.
Also known as: Chocolate!, Chocolate Guy, SpongeBob Chocolate, Screaming Chocolate Fish.
How to use the Chocolate! (SpongeBob) meme
Put the trigger in the top box and the scream in the bottom box. The classic version is a single word on top and "CHOCOLATE!" on the bottom, but the format works with anything the screamer is starved for.
The joke depends on the overreaction, so write the bottom line as one or two words in caps, as if shouted. Free food, an announced sequel, a long-awaited restock and the end of a work week are all ideal triggers.
