What is the Gigachad meme?
Gigachad is a black and white portrait of an impossibly muscular, bearded man sitting on a wooden chair, shirtless, jaw sharp as a blade, gazing off to the side with total calm. The proportions have been pushed past anything realistic, which is part of the joke. In memes he stands for the ultimate confident, unbothered person: someone who owns a choice that others would be embarrassed by. Captions usually show him calmly admitting to something odd or doing the right thing without any fuss.
Origin: The images come from Sleek'N'Tears, an art project by Russian photographer Krista Sudmalis, which presents edited photos under the persona "Ernest Khalimov". The pictures spread on Reddit from 2017 and became the face of the "Chad" stereotype.
Also known as: Giga Chad, Ernest Khalimov, Chad.
How to use the Gigachad meme
The top box usually begins with "me when" or names a situation; the bottom box is the gigachad move, stated plainly. Often the format is a proud admission: something people normally hide, said with a straight face.
The contrast between the majestic photo and a tiny or awkward behaviour is where the laugh is. "Yes, I enjoy the movie everyone hates" or "I read the terms of service" is funnier than a genuinely impressive feat. It is also commonly used as the winning side of a debate when someone confidently states an unpopular opinion.
