What is the Girl Explaining meme?
This Girl Explaining template is actually the side-by-side often called Me Explaining to My Mom. On the left a young woman in a headwrap and white T-shirt gestures with both hands, eyes watery and earnest, clearly deep into an emotional explanation. On the right an older woman sits on a couch wrapped in a Dallas Cowboys blanket, staring back with a completely blank, unconvinced expression. The joke is the wall between a passionate explainer and a listener who has no idea what they are talking about and is not trying to find out.
Also known as: Me Explaining to My Mom, Explaining to Mom, Woman Explaining Blank Stare.
How to use the Girl Explaining meme
The left box is the explainer and what they are passionately explaining, usually "me explaining" plus a niche topic. The right box is the listener: mom, a friend, a manager, the group chat.
It works best when the topic is obscure, lore-heavy or very online and the listener is someone who could not care less. Anime plots, why a game nerf matters, crypto, fantasy football trades, why the meme is funny. Short labels on the right let the blank stare carry the punchline.
