What is the I Should Buy a Boat Cat meme?
I Should Buy a Boat Cat shows a ginger cat dressed like a gentleman in a navy suit and white shirt, seated upright at a breakfast table by a curtained window with a teacup in front of him and a newspaper spread open. He gazes off to the side with the calm, slightly smug look of a businessman who has just been struck by an idea well beyond his means. The original caption, "I should buy a boat", turns that grandiose daydream into a joke about splurging, and the format grew into a cat who announces fancy, irresponsible plans with complete confidence.
Origin: The cat in a suit appears in Spike Jonze's 2005 music video for Bjork's "Triumph of a Heart", where Bjork plays the cat's wife. The "I should buy a boat" caption made it an image macro around 2012.
Also known as: I Should Buy a Boat, Sophisticated Cat, Fancy Cat, Business Cat.
How to use the I Should Buy a Boat Cat meme
The top box is optional. Use it for the setup: a paycheck, a windfall, a small win or a ridiculous excuse. The bottom box is the fancy conclusion in the same tone as "I should buy a boat".
The humor comes from the cat's unearned confidence. Pair tiny successes with huge, impractical rewards, or turn it toward everyday overreaching like upgrading your gaming PC after one good week.
