What is the It's A Trap! meme?
It's A Trap! shows Admiral Ackbar, the orange, fish-headed Mon Calamari commander of the Rebel fleet in Star Wars, turning in his command chair with bulging eyes as he realizes the Empire has set an ambush. His three-word warning, "It's a trap!", became one of the earliest movie-quote memes, used to flag anything that looks too good to be true: a free trial asking for a card number, an "easy" exam question, a surprisingly cheap flight, or a message that just says "hey, quick question". The fun is the wildly dramatic alarm raised over everyday bait.
Origin: Ackbar delivers the line during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi (1983), when the Rebels discover the second Death Star's shield is still up and the Imperial fleet is waiting for them.
Also known as: Admiral Ackbar, Its a Trap, Ackbar It's a Trap.
How to use the It's A Trap! meme
Use the top box to describe the bait: an offer, a question or a situation that seems harmless. The bottom box carries the warning, normally the original "It's a trap!" so fans recognize it instantly. Leave the top empty if the image alone says enough, as in the default caption.
It works for scams, suspiciously nice bosses, "no wrong answers" brainstorms, loot boxes and the last slice of cake nobody has touched. Make the top line sound tempting so the punchline flips it into danger.
