What is the Kombucha Girl meme?
Kombucha Girl is a two-panel reaction from a TikTok in which Brittany Tomlinson tastes kombucha for the first time. On the left she recoils with a scrunched, disgusted face; on the right she pauses, eyebrows raised, as if reconsidering whether it was actually not bad. Together the panels capture the whiplash of disliking something on first contact and then hesitantly warming up to it, or simply being unable to decide how you feel.
Origin: The panels come from Tomlinson's TikTok video of trying kombucha, posted in August 2019. Her rapid switch between disgust and curiosity made the clip spread quickly to Twitter and Instagram.
Also known as: Kombucha Lady, Trying Kombucha, Brittany Tomlinson Kombucha.
How to use the Kombucha Girl meme
There are two boxes, one above each face. Put the first impression above the grimace and the second look above the reconsidering face. The two lines are often nearly identical, since the joke is the change in reaction rather than the facts.
It works for acquired tastes, new coworkers, unusual programming languages, changing album opinions, or any guilty pleasure you can't fully commit to. Keep the labels short so the faces do the work.
