What is the Mark Zuckerberg Is Watching meme?
Mark Zuckerberg Is Watching shows the Meta founder pressed close to a window from outside, half of his face in shadow, eyes wide and unblinking, with pine trees behind him. The picture is AI-generated, which is part of why it looks slightly off: the stare is too calm and too close. A black bar above the photo holds the caption. The joke is surveillance played as a horror movie: you say, search or type something private, and the man who runs Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp is suddenly at your window, already aware. It also works for any situation where someone shows up the moment they are mentioned.
Origin: The image circulated in July 2023, around the launch of Meta's Threads app, when jokes about Zuckerberg quietly collecting everyone's data and followers were everywhere. It is a generated picture, not a real photo.
Also known as: Mark Zuckerberg Staring Through Window, Zuckerberg Looking In Window, Zuck Is Watching.
How to use the Mark Zuckerberg Is Watching meme
There is one text box, in the black space above the photo. Write a "when you..." or "me after..." setup describing something that should be private or offline, and let Zuckerberg's face supply the punchline: he already knows.
The best captions name a tiny, specific action that feels unwatched: mentioning a product out loud and then getting an ad for it, typing a password, opening a rival app, clicking "decline all cookies". It also fits any person who appears the instant their name comes up, like a manager in a group chat or an ex who views your story within seconds.
