What is the Schrute Facts meme?
Schrute Facts uses a close-up of Dwight Schrute (Rainn Wilson) from the American version of The Office, staring flatly at the camera through wire-rimmed glasses with a stiff, humorless frown and a mustard-colored shirt. Dwight is the paper company's self-serious beet farmer and volunteer sheriff's deputy, and his habit is correcting people with blunt, overly literal facts. The meme copies that pattern: someone says a common saying or a harmless opinion, and Dwight shuts it down with "False" followed by a pedantic, survivalist or bizarre correction.
Origin: The Office (US) premiered in 2005, and Dwight's "Question. ... False." style of arguing with coworkers became one of its signature bits, which fans turned into an image macro series.
Also known as: Dwight Schrute False, False Dwight, Dwight Facts.
How to use the Schrute Facts meme
The top box is a common belief, idiom or casual statement, often phrased as a question ("love is all you need?"). The bottom box starts with "False." and then gives Dwight's literal-minded correction ("you need water and rations").
The best corrections are technically accurate but miss the point entirely, or reveal a very Dwight-like worldview: survival skills, beet farming, bears, discipline and distrust of everyone. It suits nitpicking, pedants in comment sections and workplace jokes.
