What is the Simpsons So Far meme?
Simpsons So Far is a two-panel strip from The Simpsons. In the top panel Bart crouches by a pole on a quiet suburban street at sunset, looking guilty and nervous, teeth clenched as he says something. In the bottom panel Homer bends down, one hand cupping Bart's chin and the other pointing a finger at him, mouth open mid-sentence while Bart stares up at him. The meme reads the exchange as Bart offering a hopeful claim and Homer replying with a pointed "so far", a two-word reminder that the good news is only temporary and things can still go wrong.
Also known as: Bart So Far, Homer So Far.
How to use the Simpsons So Far meme
The top box goes over Bart and holds the optimistic statement: "everything is fine", "I haven't spent any money this month", "the code works". The bottom box goes over Homer and is the deflating reply, almost always "so far".
It lands best when everyone can predict the ending: a diet on day two, a game update with no bugs reported yet, a new year's resolution in January, a sports team undefeated after one match. The shorter Homer's line, the harder it hits.
