What is the SpongeBob Burning Paper meme?
SpongeBob Burning Paper is a four-panel strip from SpongeBob SquarePants. In the first panel a hand holds up a blank sheet of paper. In the second SpongeBob reads it with a skeptical frown. In the third he tosses it into a campfire with a little smile, and in the last he holds his hands out, wide-eyed and calm, as the paper goes up in flames. The meme is about dismissing something you do not want to deal with: a fact, a task, a responsibility, an opinion. He does not argue with the paper; he just makes it disappear and moves on.
Origin: The four frames are taken from “Party Pooper Pants” (2002), a SpongeBob SquarePants episode in which SpongeBob is busy planning a party.
Also known as: SpongeBob Throwing Paper in Fire, SpongeBob Fire Paper.
How to use the SpongeBob Burning Paper meme
This template has a single caption box, written on the blank sheet in the first panel. Fill it with the thing that SpongeBob will read and destroy: a responsibility, an uncomfortable truth, advice nobody follows, or a document you were supposed to read. The other three panels do the rest.
It works best when the caption is something you know you should take seriously, so the casual burning feels like a confession. Short phrases read best on the small sheet.
