What is the Bully Maguire Walking meme?
Bully Maguire Walking is a still of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker strutting down a busy New York sidewalk in a dark button-up coat, his hair combed forward over his forehead and a smug little smile on his face as women walk past. In the film this is Peter at his most insufferable, convinced he is irresistible. The meme uses that cocky stroll for anyone riding an unearned or wildly oversized wave of confidence: one small win turned into a victory lap. The emo bangs and the sheer self-satisfaction are what make it funny.
Origin: The shot is from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 (2007), during the stretch where the black symbiote amplifies Peter's ego and he struts through the city. The "Bully Maguire" name and the wave of remixes around this era of the character took off on YouTube around 2018.
Also known as: Bully Maguire, Emo Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire Strut, Evil Peter Parker.
How to use the Bully Maguire Walking meme
The top box usually names who is strutting, often "me after" plus a tiny accomplishment. The bottom box adds the context or the moment that makes the swagger silly, such as a weekday or a minor detail.
It is strongest when the accomplishment is comically small compared with the confidence: fixing one bug, finishing a single chapter, winning one ranked match. It also suits anyone who just got a haircut, new shoes or a paycheck.
