What is the That's the Neat Part, You Don't meme?
In the top panel Mark Grayson, the young hero of Invincible, asks a question with an earnest, slightly worried look. In the bottom panel his father Nolan, Omni-Man, points back at him with a smug grin and a raised eyebrow. The format is a two-line exchange: someone asks how to do something, and Omni-Man answers "that's the neat part, you don't." It is used to deliver bleak truths cheerfully, such as the realisation that you never really finish, fix, afford or escape something.
Origin: The exchange comes from the second episode of Invincible, the animated superhero series that premiered on Amazon Prime Video in 2021. The original line referred to Mark's question about when being a hero gets fun.
Also known as: That's the Neat Part, Omni-Man Neat Part.
How to use the That's the Neat Part, You Don't meme
The top box is the question, usually "how do I..." or "when do I...", asked by Mark. The bottom box is Omni-Man's answer, which keeps the "that's the neat part, you don't" wording. The question should sound reasonable and hopeful so the cheerful dismissal hits harder.
It suits housing prices, student loans, legacy code, endless chores, game grinding, sleep for new parents, and anything else with no real solution.
