What is the Tired SpongeBob meme?
Tired SpongeBob shows SpongeBob SquarePants propped against the rocky mouth of a cave, one hand pressed to the wall and the other on his hip, cheeks puffed out, eyes droopy and watery, as if he is letting out a huge "whew" after an exhausting effort. His whole body sags and his face says he has nothing left. The meme exaggerates how drained you feel after something small, so the humor usually comes from the mismatch between a minor task and SpongeBob's full-body collapse.
Origin: The frame comes from the first-season SpongeBob SquarePants episode "Nature Pants" (1999), in which SpongeBob quits his job to live among the jellyfish. It spread on Twitter as a reaction image.
Also known as: SpongeBob Whew, Exhausted SpongeBob, Out of Breath SpongeBob.
How to use the Tired SpongeBob meme
The template has white space above the picture. The top box sets up who is tired, often just "me after". The bottom box names the task that wore them out.
The more trivial the task, the funnier the exhaustion: one stand-up meeting, answering two emails, folding a single load of laundry, a short phone call, walking up one flight of stairs. It also works sincerely for genuinely draining events like finals week or a 16-hour shift.
