What is the Bully Maguire Dancing meme?
Bully Maguire Dancing is a cutout of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker in Spider-Man 3 (2007), mid-strut in a dark suit with an emo fringe, elbows bent, wearing a look of complete self-satisfaction. In the film the black symbiote makes Peter cocky, and he struts and dances through New York convinced he is the coolest man alive. Online he has become the face of misplaced confidence: anyone feeling powerful after a tiny victory or showing off when nobody asked. The clueless swagger is the joke, since the audience can see how cringey it looks while Peter cannot.
Origin: The scenes come from Sam Raimi's Spider-Man 3 (2007). The Bully Maguire remix trend grew on YouTube around 2018, with fans splicing his evil-Peter moments into other movies and trailers.
Also known as: Bully Maguire, Evil Peter Parker Dance, Emo Peter Parker, Tobey Maguire Dancing.
How to use the Bully Maguire Dancing meme
The top box sets up who is dancing, usually "me" or a group, and the bottom box names the tiny achievement that triggered the swagger. Smaller wins are funnier: one correct quiz answer, a parking spot, sending one email.
It also works for describing someone who is being smug when they should not be, like a team celebrating a draw. Keep the tone confident and slightly embarrassing.
