What is the Unsettled Tom meme?
Unsettled Tom is a crude MS Paint-style extreme close-up of Tom from Tom and Jerry: huge round yellow eyes, tense eyebrows and stress lines on his forehead, staring off to the side in quiet distress. He is not panicking or screaming; he is simply disturbed and trying to process what he just saw. That restraint is what makes the image useful: it is the face you make when someone casually says something deeply wrong. Captions describe the cursed statement, habit or fact, and Tom silently reacts to it.
Origin: The drawing comes from a fan-made Paint comic posted on DeviantArt in the early 2010s, and later spread as a reaction image on 4chan and then Reddit around 2019.
Also known as: Traumatized Tom, Concerned Tom.
How to use the Unsettled Tom meme
Use the top box for the setup ("when your friend says", "me hearing"), and the bottom box for the cursed thing itself. Quote the statement directly when you can; the more casually horrifying it is, the better Tom's stare works.
Good targets: cursed food combos, alarming confessions, chaotic habits, and things that are technically true but upsetting to learn. The quieter and more matter-of-fact the caption, the funnier Tom's silent horror becomes.
