What is the Why Not Both? meme?
A little girl with a dark bob haircut, standing in a kitchen, looks up with an earnest, slightly puzzled expression, as if she has just found the obvious solution adults somehow missed. She is from a TV commercial in which a family argues over hard or soft taco shells and she asks why they can't have both. The meme captures that childlike logic: when faced with two options, refuse to choose. It is used both sincerely for win-win compromises and ironically for greedy or absurd combinations.
Origin: The clip is from an Old El Paso taco kit commercial. In the ad the girl asks "¿Por qué no los dos?" ("Why not both?"), and the English line became a catchphrase and reaction image.
Also known as: Why Don't We Have Both?, Por Qué No Los Dos, Taco Girl.
How to use the Why Not Both? meme
The top box presents a dilemma between two options, usually as a question or "X or Y". The bottom box is the girl's answer, almost always "why not both?". Keep the two options parallel so the reader instantly sees the choice.
It shines with pairings that are absurd or indulgent to combine: pizza or burgers, coffee or energy drink, tabs or spaces, sleeping in or a nap, the sequel or the remake. You can also flip it for bad outcomes, like "late or over budget?"
