What is the Blank Nut Button meme?
The Blank Nut Button is a blurry close-up of a hand swinging down to smack a big, glossy blue arcade-style button set in a metal housing. The motion blur sells the urgency: whoever is pressing it has no hesitation at all. In this blank version the button carries no word, so you can label it with any instant, involuntary reaction, the thing someone smashes the moment a trigger appears, like buying a game on sale or replying with a hot take.
Origin: The image started on Tumblr in December 2015 as a jokey response to a post begging people to smash the like button, with a crude word edited onto the button. The format later spread as a reaction image, and blank copies let people put their own label on it.
Also known as: Nut Button, Blue Button Meme, Smash the Button.
How to use the Blank Nut Button meme
The first box sits in the dark top-left corner: say who is pressing or describe the trigger ("me when the sale starts"). The second box goes on the blue button itself: name the action taken without thinking.
It works for impulsive habits and knee-jerk choices: hitting "buy now", skipping the intro, refactoring everything, posting a reply before reading the article. The faster and less considered the action, the better it matches the blurred, frantic slap.
