What is the Confused Nick Young meme?
Confused Nick Young shows NBA player Nick Young, nicknamed Swaggy P, squinting with his face scrunched up in bewilderment while a cluster of question marks floats around his head. It's the internet's go-to image for "what?": a reaction to something that makes no sense, a contradictory statement or an unreasonable request. The question marks spell out the confusion, so the caption only has to supply the thing that caused it. It became especially popular on Twitter.
Origin: The expression comes from a 2014 episode of the YouTube web series Thru The Lens, which followed Young around. The floating question marks were added later by fans, turning the frame into a reaction picture.
Also known as: Swaggy P, Nick Young Question Marks, Confused Black Guy Meme.
How to use the Confused Nick Young meme
The top box sets up the puzzling statement or request, often as a quote or "when they say". The bottom box can deliver a follow-up question ("by when?") or remain blank to let the question marks do the talking.
It works for contradictory instructions, odd rules, plot holes, confusing pricing, and replies that miss the point. Keep it short and conversational; the image does the reacting, so the text should be the source of confusion.
