What is the So I Got That Goin' For Me, Which is Nice meme?
This template shows Bill Murray as Carl Spackler in Caddyshack, wearing a battered camouflage bucket hat and a sweaty grey t-shirt, mid-sentence with a squint and a dazed, deadpan look. Carl is a groundskeeper with a gift for telling absurd stories as if they made perfect sense. The meme pairs a sad or embarrassing confession with a tiny, ridiculous silver lining, then signs off with his line. It is the voice of someone making peace with a bad situation by pointing at one irrelevant bright side.
Origin: In Caddyshack (1980), Carl tells a story about caddying for the Dalai Lama, who stiffed him on a tip but promised he would receive total consciousness on his deathbed. He wraps up the tale by noting that he has that going for him, which is nice.
Also known as: Carl Spackler, Caddyshack Bill Murray, Which Is Nice.
How to use the So I Got That Goin' For Me, Which is Nice meme
The top box holds the setback, and ideally a strange consolation prize too. The bottom box is Carl's catchphrase, ending in "I got that goin' for me" and the dry "which is nice".
The gap between how bad the situation is and how small the upside is makes it funny: losing your job but keeping the company hoodie, failing the exam but spelling your name right. If the top box is left empty, the image can also be used as a straight reaction to someone else's tiny win.
