What is the Disappointed Black Guy meme?
Disappointed Black Guy is a two-row reaction image: on the right, a young man grins with real excitement in the top photo, and in the bottom photo the smile has drained away into a stunned, let-down frown. The left side of each row is blank white space for labels. It is the classic expectation versus reality format, where the top row is what you were promised or hoped for and the bottom row is what actually showed up. The comedy depends on how fast his face falls, so the bigger the gap between the two captions, the harder it hits.
Also known as: Disappointed Black Guy Meme, Happy Then Sad Guy, Expectation vs Reality Guy.
How to use the Disappointed Black Guy meme
The top box goes beside the happy face: describe the exciting thing, the promise, the notification or the first impression. The bottom box goes beside the crushed face: the twist, the fine print or what it turned out to be.
Keep the two lines parallel so the reader can compare them instantly, for example "package delivered" / "it's the charger I returned". Small, relatable letdowns tend to beat big dramatic ones: food that looked bigger in the ad, a text that was just a verification code, a game sale that excludes your region.
