What is the Disaster Girl meme?
Disaster Girl is a photo of a young girl glancing back at the camera with a sly little smile while a house burns behind her and firefighters work near a fire truck. Her knowing expression makes it look as if she started the fire and is quietly pleased with the result. Captions treat her as the cheerful mastermind behind any chaos: a broken build, a ruined group chat, a stadium meltdown. The image has also been edited onto other disasters for years.
Origin: Dave Roth photographed his daughter Zoe in 2005 in Mebane, North Carolina, while the local fire department burned a house in a controlled training exercise. The photo spread online a few years later.
Also known as: Burning House Girl, Fire Girl Meme, Zoe Roth.
How to use the Disaster Girl meme
The top box describes the disaster or the scheme, and the bottom box is her smug reaction, usually something like "just as I planned" or "you're welcome". The top box can also stay empty if the bottom line is enough.
It fits sabotage played for laughs: being the one who pushed a breaking change, sending an innocent message that starts a family fight, a sibling getting in trouble, a referee's call that ruins the game. Her face suggests guilt with zero regret, so first-person captions work best.
