What is the C'mon, Do Something meme?
C'mon, Do Something is a simple black-and-white doodle of a tall, thin ninja in a mask leaning forward and prodding the ground with a long stick, with nothing at the end of it. The empty space in front of the stick is the template: people paste in whatever is lifeless, broken or refusing to react, and the ninja becomes everyone who has ever poked at a problem hoping it will spring back to life. The mood is half boredom, half morbid curiosity, like a kid poking a dead fish on the beach.
Origin: The drawing comes from the webcomic White Ninja Comics, which sold merchandise with the ninja poking a dead fish and the line "c'mon, do something". The empty version later became a Photoshop exploitable.
Also known as: Come On Do Something, White Ninja Poking, Ninja Poking Stick.
How to use the C'mon, Do Something meme
The top box labels whatever is at the end of the stick: the dead thing you are trying to revive. The bottom box is usually the catchphrase "c'mon, do something", or a variation that fits the situation.
It works for anything that should respond but won't: a frozen laptop, a group chat after you suggested plans, your motivation on Sunday, a stock that has been flat for years, a team that hasn't scored all season. You can also edit an image of the object right where the stick ends for extra effect.
