What is the Do All the Things meme?
Do All the Things is a crude MS Paint-style drawing of a stick figure with a blonde tuft of hair, a pink body and a wide-open screaming mouth, one arm thrust skyward clutching a thin stick, set against a burst of jagged yellow. It radiates manic, overconfident enthusiasm. The caption follows the pattern "X all the Y!" and captures the moment when you decide to tackle everything at once with zero planning: clean all the things, refactor all the things, buy all the things. In the original comic that burst of energy quickly runs out, so the meme is as much a joke about burnout as it is about motivation.
Origin: The drawing is from Allie Brosh's webcomic blog Hyperbole and a Half, in a 2010 post about trying to be a responsible adult. The "all the things" panel became one of the most-shared snowclones of the early 2010s.
Also known as: All the Things, X All the Y, Hyperbole and a Half.
How to use the Do All the Things meme
The top box is the action verb, the bottom box is "all the things!" or "all the X!" with a specific object. The default example is "refactor" / "all the things!". Shout it: all caps and an exclamation point match the figure's energy.
It works for any burst of overambition: the first day of a new year, an excited new hire, a Black Friday cart, a fresh notebook at the start of the semester. Pair it with something people tend to overdo, or with a task nobody should attempt all at once.
