What is the Everything the Light Touches is Our Kingdom meme?
Mufasa and young Simba sit side by side on the edge of Pride Rock, seen from behind as they look out over the savanna at sunrise, with rivers glinting across the plains under an orange sky. In the film Mufasa tells his son that everything the light touches is their kingdom, then warns him about a shadowy place beyond the borders that he must never visit. The meme turns that conversation into a way of dividing any world into a welcoming domain and the forbidden zone that everyone avoids.
Origin: The scene is from Disney's animated film The Lion King (1994), in the early sequence where Mufasa shows Simba the Pride Lands at dawn.
Also known as: Everything the Light Touches, Mufasa and Simba, That Shadowy Place, Lion King Pride Rock.
How to use the Everything the Light Touches is Our Kingdom meme
The two boxes carry the dialogue. The top box is usually Simba's question about the forbidden area, like "what about that shadowy place?", or Mufasa's line naming the good part of the domain. The bottom box is Mufasa's warning, naming the place you must never go. You can also write it as "everything the light touches is X" on top and "what about that shadowy place?" below.
Good forbidden places: the legacy codebase, the comments section, the back of the fridge, the last page of search results, the bottom of the group chat, the far end of the gym where the serious lifters train.
