What is the Fuck Me, Right? meme?
Fuck Me, Right? is a still of Jonah Hill as Seth in the 2007 teen comedy Superbad, caught mid-laugh at a house party with his mouth wide open, eyes squeezed shut and one hand flung out as if he just told the best joke of the night. The caption turns that big laugh into forced, self-mocking cheer: the character admits to some embarrassing failure or bad luck, then shrugs it off with "fuck me, right?" The humor is the gap between how grim the confession is and how hard he is laughing about it, the way people laugh when the alternative is crying in front of everyone.
Origin: The frame comes from Superbad (2007), the Greg Mottola comedy written by Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg, starring Jonah Hill and Michael Cera as high schoolers trying to get alcohol to a party. It became a captioned image macro on meme generator sites in the early 2010s.
Also known as: Fuck Me Right, FMR, Superbad Laughing Jonah Hill, Jonah Hill Laughing.
How to use the Fuck Me, Right? meme
Box one, at the top, holds the confession: a short, slightly pathetic fact about yourself or a situation that went badly. Box two is the tag line "fuck me, right?", or you can leave the top empty and let the tag line stand alone as a reply.
The joke works best when the confession is specific and a little too honest, like something you would only admit after a drink. Self-roasts about money, exams, dating apps, gym attendance and video game losses all fit. Avoid making the top line a joke on its own; it should read as a sad fact so the laugh at the bottom feels like coping.
