What is the Homelander Stare meme?
Homelander Stare is a close-up of Antony Starr as Homelander from The Boys, holding a black smartphone up beside his face with the screen turned away from him and the back facing the viewer. His expression is stiff and controlled: lips pressed together, eyes locked on whoever is looking at him, the slicked-back hair perfectly in place. It reads like someone who has just seen exactly what you did, said nothing yet, and is deciding how bad things are about to get. It is a reaction image for quiet, menacing judgment.
Origin: Homelander is the superpowered, unstable leader of the Seven in Amazon's series The Boys, based on the comic by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson. Antony Starr has played him since the show premiered in 2019.
Also known as: Homelander Looking at Phone, Homelander Phone, Antony Starr Stare.
How to use the Homelander Stare meme
Put the context in the top box ("when someone says" or "me reading") and the offending message or action in the bottom box. His blank, controlled face supplies the threat, so the caption should be something that would provoke silent fury rather than shouting.
Use it for passive-aggressive emails, bad takes, people who say "it works on my machine", screenshots of something you were not supposed to see, or a friend who reveals a terrible opinion. The phone in his hand makes it especially good for anything read on a screen.
