What is the If Those Kids Could Read They'd Be Very Upset meme?
This template is a two-panel scene from King of the Hill. In the top panel Bobby Hill, in a little suit and tie, presses a blank white sign against a classroom window and points at it with a grin. In the bottom panel a man outside the school building delivers the subtitled line about how upset the kids would be if only they could read, while a group of children stare blankly through the glass. The sign is the template's blank, so the meme insults an audience by suggesting the message would hurt their feelings, if only they were able to understand it.
Origin: The scene comes from the animated sitcom King of the Hill, created by Mike Judge and Greg Daniels, which originally ran on Fox from 1997 to 2010. Bobby Hill was voiced by Pamela Adlon.
Also known as: Bobby Hill Sign, King of the Hill Kids Could Read.
How to use the If Those Kids Could Read They'd Be Very Upset meme
The only box is the blank sign Bobby holds in the top panel. Write a short, pointed statement aimed at a group that, by implication, would never actually read it: people who skip documentation, fans who only watch highlights, coworkers who never open emails.
The joke is aimed at the audience, not the sign's content, so the strongest captions are fair, slightly smug truths. Statements like "the answer is in the FAQ" or "the terms said no refunds" work because the target group famously never reads that far. Four to ten words fit the sign.
