What is the Mr. Bean Waiting meme?
Mr. Bean Waiting is a four-panel sequence of Rowan Atkinson as Mr. Bean on the edge of a country road beside a field of bright yellow flowers. He starts standing with his hands on his hips looking hopefully down the road, then checks his watch, then sits in the grass, and finally lies flat out on the verge, defeated. The black bar above the grid holds the caption. The meme captures any wait that drags on far longer than it should, with each panel adding a bit more resignation.
Origin: The frames come from the 2007 film Mr. Bean's Holiday, in a scene where Bean is left waiting beside a quiet country road.
Also known as: Mr Bean Waiting, Mr Bean Waiting in Field, Mr Bean Checking Watch.
How to use the Mr. Bean Waiting meme
The top box sets up what you are waiting for, often starting with "me waiting". The bottom box finishes it: who or what you are waiting on, like a reply, a delivery or a build.
It works best for waits that are relatable and slightly absurd: a friend who said "five minutes", a game patch, an exam result, a teammate who is "almost ready". Short lines keep the four panels visible, so let the slumping sequence do the storytelling.
