What is the Mr. Bean Copying meme?
Mr. Bean Copying shows Rowan Atkinson's Mr. Bean in a tweed jacket at an exam desk, eyes sliding sideways and mouth pursed as he peeks at the paper of the focused student beside him, who writes away without noticing. It is the perfect picture of someone shamelessly borrowing another person's work while trying to look casual. Labeled versions use the diligent student as the original and Bean as the copycat, often for brands, games or apps that release suspiciously familiar features.
Origin: The scene is from "The Exam" segment in the very first episode of the British sitcom Mr. Bean, which aired on January 1, 1990, where Bean tries every trick to cheat on a calculus test.
Also known as: Mr. Bean Cheating, Mr Bean Copying, Mr. Bean Exam, Mr Bean Looking at Paper.
How to use the Mr. Bean Copying meme
The left box goes above the hard-working student: name the original, the one doing the real work. The right box goes above Mr. Bean: name the copycat. Keeping the labels short lets his guilty side-eye carry the joke.
It suits tech companies cloning each other's features, phone makers, fast-food menus, game genres, rival streamers and, of course, actual students during exams and group projects.
