What is the Say the Line, Bart! meme?

Say the Line, Bart! uses two stills from The Simpsons. In the top panel Principal Skinner, Mrs. Krabappel, Milhouse, Martin and other Springfield Elementary classmates crowd around Bart with eager, expectant grins. In the bottom panel the whole classroom erupts, arms in the air, after he delivers the catchphrase they were waiting for. The meme casts any person or group as the expectant crowd and puts their predictable, endlessly repeated line in the payoff. It is a gentle roast of someone who always says the same thing, and the joke is that everyone already knows the answer before they ask.

Origin: The scene is from the Season 5 Simpsons episode "Bart Gets Famous" (1994), in which Bart becomes a star on Krusty's show thanks to the throwaway line "I didn't do it," and everyone begs him to repeat it.

Also known as: Say the Line Bart, Bart Gets Famous, I Didn't Do It.

How to use the Say the Line, Bart! meme

The top box goes over the eager crowd and should read "Say the line, ___!" with the person or group whose catchphrase you are mocking. The bottom box goes over the cheering class and is the catchphrase itself, usually in quotes.

It is strongest when the line is a real cliché of that profession or fandom: the consultant's "it depends", the doctor telling you to drink more water, the tech support script. The more universally recognized the answer, the bigger the laugh, because readers say the line in their head before they reach the bottom panel.
