What is the Skeptical Third World Kid meme?
Skeptical Third World Kid shows a toddler in a dusty striped polo shirt, standing with his arms folded across his body and side-eyeing the smiling woman next to him with a look of deep doubt. His squint and pursed lips read as pure suspicion, as if he has just been told something he refuses to believe. Captions put him on the receiving end of a ridiculous first-world habit or claim, usually framed as "so you're telling me...", so the joke points at the absurdity of the habit rather than at the child.
Also known as: Skeptical Kid, Skeptical African Kid, So You're Telling Me Kid, Side Eye Kid.
How to use the Skeptical Third World Kid meme
The top box is the start of the skeptical question, often "so you're telling me" or "wait, you...". The bottom box completes the questionable claim, ending in a question mark.
Aim the humor at strange modern habits: paying for things that used to be free, wasting food or water, complicated diets, subscriptions for everything. It also works outside that frame for any claim that sounds too good to be true, like a free trial with no catch. Keep it short so the side-eye delivers the verdict.
