What is the So Hot Right Now meme?
So Hot Right Now is a still from Zoolander showing Will Ferrell as the fashion designer Mugatu at a runway show, mouth open mid-proclamation, a curly white wig on his head and a tiny poodle in a matching outfit tucked under his arm. Beside him sits his assistant Katinka in red latex with a severe black bob. In the film he is gushing that male model Hansel is the hottest thing in fashion at that moment. As a meme, the frame crowns whatever is having its moment: a new app, a food trend, a framework everyone suddenly uses. Most of the time the praise is half sincere and half mocking, since Mugatu himself is a ridiculous tastemaker who changes his mind constantly.
Origin: The scene comes from Zoolander (2001), the Ben Stiller fashion-industry comedy. Mugatu, played by Will Ferrell, delivers the line about Hansel, the rival model played by Owen Wilson, who can be seen sitting just behind him in the frame.
Also known as: Hansel So Hot Right Now, Zoolander Mugatu, Mugatu Meme.
How to use the So Hot Right Now meme
The top box names the thing that is trending, and the bottom box finishes the sentence with "so hot right now", just like the default caption. You can also swap Hansel's name in: "Air fryers. So hot right now." Keep the subject to one or two words so the deadpan rhythm of the original line survives.
It works best on fads that everyone can feel peaking: a word every coworker suddenly says, a sneaker drop, the language all the startups rewrote their backend in this year. For extra irony, use it on something hopelessly dated, as if Mugatu just discovered it.
