What is the They Don't Know meme?
They Don't Know shows a simply drawn Wojak in a striped party hat standing alone in the corner of a room, holding a drink, while couples dance and laugh in front of him. His face is blank and slightly sad. The caption is his inner monologue, almost always beginning "they don't know...", followed by some private fact he is weirdly proud of or obsessed with. The joke is the gap between how important that fact feels to him and how little anyone at the party would care.
Origin: The lonely guy at the party grew out of 2009-era That Feel Guy comics, including the joke about wishing he were back home playing games. Around late 2020 the "they don't know" version took over.
Also known as: Party Loner, Wojak at the Party, I Wish I Was At Home, Corner Wojak.
How to use the They Don't Know meme
There is one box, in the top right next to the Wojak. Write his thought: "they don't know" plus a niche secret, achievement or obsession. The more trivial and specific, the better.
The classic pattern is someone sitting on knowledge they would love to share: "they don't know I have 2,000 hours in this game", "they don't know I fixed the build". It also works for awkwardness at social events and quietly superior hobbies. A line or two is plenty; any more and the text covers the dancers.
