What is the Things to Say meme?
Things to Say puts a moody black-and-white close-up of Hugh Laurie as Dr. Gregory House on the right side of a black poster, glaring straight at the viewer, with "THINGS TO SAY" in tall white capitals in the top left corner. The empty black space under the title is where the list goes. The format presents itself as serious life advice, but the listed lines are deliberately terrible, cringe or wildly overconfident, and House's cold stare sells them as if they were wisdom.
Origin: Know Your Meme traces the format to TikTok in late August 2026, where list-style posts of "things you should say" to teachers, partners or in-laws spread as a parody of hustle-culture advice graphics. The House version is the blank most people reuse.
Also known as: Things To Say House, House MD Things to Say, Things You Should Say.
How to use the Things to Say meme
There is one text box: the black area under the title. Write a short heading for the situation ("to your boss", "on a first date") and then a list of three to five lines, one per row. The worst advice should be phrased the most confidently.
It works best when the list escalates: start with something almost reasonable, end with something no one should ever say. Keep each line under about six words so the list reads at a glance on a phone and does not run into House's face.
