What is the We're All Trying to Find the Guy Who Did This meme?
The hot dog car meme shows Tim Robinson in a full hot dog costume, arms spread and mouth open mid-protest, inside a men's clothing store while a crowd of shoppers and staff stares at him in disbelief. A hot dog-shaped car has just crashed into the shop, and everyone knows the man in the costume was driving, but he insists with total conviction that he is just another concerned bystander helping search for the culprit. The meme is used whenever someone obviously responsible for a mess tries to blend in with the people looking for whoever caused it. The more obvious the evidence, the better it works.
Origin: The scene is a sketch from the first season of Tim Robinson's Netflix sketch show I Think You Should Leave, which premiered in 2019. The line quickly became one of the show's most quoted moments.
Also known as: Hot Dog Guy, Hot Dog Car, I Think You Should Leave Hot Dog, Trying to Find the Guy Who Did This.
How to use the We're All Trying to Find the Guy Who Did This meme
Use the top box for the situation or the question being asked, such as who broke the build, who ate the leftovers, who started the group chat drama. The bottom box is the denial, usually Tim Robinson's line, word for word, about everyone searching for the guy responsible.
It is strongest when the speaker is very clearly guilty: the dev who pushed on Friday, the roommate with crumbs on their shirt, the team captain who scored the own goal. Making the top box a public announcement or a manager's message adds to the feeling of the culprit nervously joining the search party.
