What is the Condescending Wonka meme?
Condescending Wonka shows Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka in the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, resting his chin on his hand with a thin smile, tilted head and half-lidded eyes. That look of fake interest is what the meme runs on: the captions are mock-polite replies to someone bragging, overexplaining or stating the obvious. Wonka never openly mocks them; he just asks a leading question or says "tell me more" in a way that makes it clear he is not impressed at all. It is the reaction image for humblebrags and people who think one small achievement makes them an expert.
Origin: The still is from the 1971 Paramount musical starring Gene Wilder. It spread as an advice-animal style image macro in early 2011, and the sarcastic "oh, you..." caption style quickly became its standard format.
Also known as: Creepy Wonka, Tell Me More Wonka, Willy Wonka Meme.
How to use the Condescending Wonka meme
Top box: start with a sarcastic setup that repeats what the other person said, often "oh, you..." ("oh, you watched one documentary?"). Bottom box: the deadpan conclusion that exaggerates their claim ("you must be a doctor now").
The humor depends on the tone staying fake-friendly. Avoid openly insulting the target; let Wonka's smirk do the mocking. It is best aimed at self-appointed experts, crypto tips, gym beginners, people who "don't watch TV" and anyone who mentions their diet unprompted.
