What is the Dog vs. Werewolf meme?
Dog vs. Werewolf is a photo of a happy golden retriever sitting on a polished concrete floor, tongue out and smiling at the camera, right beside a life-size werewolf sculpture crouched on all fours with glowing orange eyes, bristling grey fur and a mouth full of bloody fangs. Two canines, two completely different energies. The meme labels the dog and the werewolf as the calm and the feral versions of the same person or thing: you at 9 am versus 11 pm, a cat in the day versus at 3 am, a coworker before and after their coffee runs out. The contrast in mood is the entire joke.
Origin: The dog belongs to comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan, and the werewolf is a life-size replica of the monster from An American Werewolf in London (1981). Labeled versions of the photo spread widely as a comparison meme.
Also known as: Dog and Werewolf, Golden Retriever Werewolf, Joe Rogan Werewolf.
How to use the Dog vs. Werewolf meme
The top box labels the dog: the sweet, harmless, well-behaved version. The bottom box labels the werewolf: the same subject when provoked, tired, hungry or past a certain hour. Short labels like "me at 9am" and "me at 11pm" are the classic pattern.
Pick pairs that really are the same subject in two states, so the reader connects them instantly. Sleep schedules, sports fans before and after a loss, students at the start and end of exams, and gamers in casual versus ranked mode all fit.
