What is the Genie Rules meme?
Genie Rules is a simple two-panel comic. In the top panel a genie in a striped white turban holds up a hand and lists three rules: no wishing for death, no falling in love, no bringing back dead people. A bald man in a green shirt listens. In the bottom panel the man leans in and whispers something, and the genie, now staring dead ahead, declares, "There are four rules." The blank space where the man whispers holds his wish, which is so outrageous, annoying or impossible that the genie has to invent a brand-new rule on the spot. It is a neat format for requests that should be banned.
Origin: The three rules echo the Genie's limits in Disney's Aladdin (1992), where he refuses to kill, make anyone fall in love or bring back the dead.
Also known as: Genie Three Wishes, There Are Four Rules, Aladdin Genie Rules.
How to use the Genie Rules meme
There is one text box, on the left side of the bottom panel next to the leaning man. Write the wish he whispers, which then forces the genie's "there are four rules". The comic supplies the setup and punchline, so the caption is just the request.
It works best when the wish sounds like a reasonable ask but is actually cursed, impossible or deeply irritating: math crimes, endless sequels, fixing a specific bug, making a game character pay rent. Keep it to a single line so it fits the narrow space.
