What is the Who Killed Hannibal? meme?
Who Killed Hannibal? is a two-frame stack from The Eric Andre Show. In the top frame host Eric Andre points a gun at his co-host Hannibal Buress, who slumps on a couch amid smoke. In the bottom frame Andre faces the camera with a puzzled scowl, as if he has no idea what just happened. The meme labels the victim and the shooter, then adds a question that pretends not to know who did it. It's the internet's standard way to call out anyone who causes a problem and then complains about it.
Origin: The bit comes from a 2013 episode of The Eric Andre Show on Adult Swim, a deliberately chaotic talk-show parody. Andre shoots at Buress, then turns to the camera and asks "Who killed Hannibal?"
Also known as: Who Killed Hannibal, Eric Andre Shooting Hannibal, Why Would They Do This, Eric Andre Meme.
How to use the Who Killed Hannibal? meme
There are three boxes. The first goes on Hannibal on the couch: the victim of the problem. The second goes on Eric Andre holding the gun: the culprit. The third, along the bottom, is the faux-innocent question, often "why would X do this?" or "who did this?"
It fits self-inflicted problems: teams that ruined their own game, companies that broke their own product, or you sabotaging your own sleep. The punch is the obliviousness of the final question.
