What is the Gru's Gun meme?
Gru's Gun shows Gru from Despicable Me staring straight ahead with a calm, slightly smug little smile, while a realistic hand holding a pistol has been edited into the foreground, pointed directly at the viewer. The mismatch between the soft animated face and the very real gun makes it a menacing joke threat. It is used as a reaction image to demand an explanation, enforce an opinion or respond to something unforgivable, like someone admitting they skip the credits scene or saying a hot dog is a sandwich. Despite the gun, the mood is playful: it is cartoon intimidation, not real anger.
Origin: Gru is the main character of Illumination’s Despicable Me films. The edit pairs him with a popular pointing-a-gun exploitable hand and spread on iFunny and Reddit as a reaction image starting in 2018.
Also known as: Gru Holding Gun, Gru With a Gun, Things Are About to Get GRUesome.
How to use the Gru's Gun meme
The top box is Gru's demand or the setup, the bottom box completes it. A common shape is a demand on top and the offense underneath ("explain why" / "your PR has 400 files"), or a quote of what someone just said followed by "say that again".
Use it for petty hot takes, rule-breaking and inexcusable behavior in groups: friends, gaming squads, coworkers, sports fans. Keep the tone obviously silly so the threat reads as a joke. One-line demands that sound like a polite movie villain work best with his little smile.
