What is the I Hate You and Hope You Die meme?
I Hate You and Hope You Die is a crudely drawn webcomic panel in rage-comic style. On the left, a tall bald figure with bulging eyes, popping veins and clenched teeth screams the line in big capital letters. On the right stands a small, delighted kid in a propeller beanie, holding a toy, with an empty speech bubble of his own. In the original, the kid had just cheerfully said he likes playing with toys. The template lets you fill in the kid's reply, which turns the scene into a huge, unprovoked rage aimed at something sweet, or into the kid obliviously answering the screaming man with total good cheer.
Origin: The comic was posted by the artist FallenChungus on X in May 2024, with the child happily saying "I like playing with toys." Its pointless fury made it an instant exploitable, with people swapping in new lines for the kid.
Also known as: I Fucking Hate You and Hope You Die, I Like Playing With Toys, IFHY Comic.
How to use the I Hate You and Hope You Die meme
There is one box: the kid's empty speech bubble on the right. You have two ways to play it. Either the kid says something wholesome and harmless, so the adult's hatred becomes the joke, or the kid replies to the scream with a cheerful, totally oblivious answer like "thanks, you too!"
Short, sunny sentences work best since the bubble is small. Harmless hobbies, cozy opinions, polite customer-service replies and unprompted fun facts all make the scream look ridiculous. Keep the kid's tone sincere, never sarcastic.
