What is the I Immediately Regret This Decision! meme?
I Immediately Regret This Decision is a still of Will Ferrell as Ron Burgundy in Anchorman, wearing his burgundy suit and wide striped tie, eyes darting sideways with his mouth half open. It is the exact moment a proud, impulsive choice turns into panic, which is why the caption almost always repeats his line word for word. The joke works for any decision whose consequences arrive in the first second: the third espresso, the reply-all, the jump into the deep end of a codebase you have never seen. Ron's mix of dignity and dawning horror is what sells it; he still looks like a newsman, just one who has realized he is standing in a bear pit.
Origin: The line comes from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy (2004). When Veronica Corningstone falls into the Kodiak bear enclosure at the zoo, Ron leaps in after her to play the hero, lands, looks at the bears and says it out loud.
Also known as: I Immediately Regret This Decision, Ron Burgundy Regret, Anchorman Bear Pit, Ron Burgundy Meme.
How to use the I Immediately Regret This Decision! meme
The top box describes the decision, written in first person or as a quick “when you” setup: signing up for the marathon, volunteering to lead the project, opening the group chat after a week away. The bottom box is the punchline, usually Ron's own line, “I immediately regret this decision.”
The tighter the gap between action and regret, the better. Pick choices that feel bold for half a second and are obviously terrible a moment later. You can also leave the top box empty and post the image as a pure reaction reply to someone describing their own bad idea.
