What is the I See Dead People meme?

I See Dead People is a close-up of young Cole Sear, played by Haley Joel Osment, lying in bed with a pink knitted blanket pulled up to his chin, eyes wide and teary with fear. It is the moment from M. Night Shyamalan's The Sixth Sense (1999) when he finally whispers his secret: that he sees dead people walking around like regular people who do not know they are dead. The meme keeps the frightened whisper but swaps "dead people" for something only the speaker seems to notice, often lifeless, abandoned or doomed.

Origin: The Sixth Sense, starring Bruce Willis as child psychologist Malcolm Crowe and Haley Joel Osment as Cole, was released in August 1999. Cole's confession became one of the most quoted movie lines of its decade.

Also known as: Sixth Sense Kid, I See Dead X.

How to use the I See Dead People meme

Top box: "I see," or a short setup. Bottom box: the dead or dying thing you keep spotting. Dead code, dead group chats, dead memes, dead batteries, abandoned side projects, empty stadium seats.

The frightened face works because the caption treats something mundane as a haunting only you can see. Lean into ghosts that are still pretending to be alive, like a feature nobody uses or a team that does not know its season is over.
