What is the Inhaling Seagull meme?
Inhaling Seagull is a two-panel image of a white gull perched on a wooden ledge. In the top frame it throws its head back with its beak wide open, as if taking a massive breath. In the bottom frame it lunges forward and screams, edited with a blinding red glow and motion blur so it looks like a full-power energy blast. The meme treats the bird as someone who has been holding something in and is about to release it at maximum volume: song lyrics, a rant, a hype chant or a perfectly timed line.
Origin: The pictures come from a 2012 YouTube video of a seagull that seems to rear back and cackle. Stills from the clip became a two-panel image macro, with the red, glowing scream added in later edits.
Also known as: Screaming Seagull, Seagull Inhale Meme.
How to use the Inhaling Seagull meme
The top box is the quiet wind-up: a single word, the first syllable of a lyric, or simply "*inhales*". The bottom box is the release, written in ALL CAPS and as loud and long as the space allows: the rest of a lyric, a catchphrase, or the thing you have been dying to say.
It shines with famous song lines (start them small, finish them huge), sports chants, and moments when someone finally gets to say "I told you so". The contrast between a tiny top line and an overflowing bottom line is the joke.
