What is the It's Happening meme?
It's Happening shows former Texas congressman and presidential candidate Ron Paul throwing both hands in the air, wiggling his fingers with a huge open-mouthed grin, while green and purple laser lights fill the background. The pose looks like a man watching the long-awaited event finally arrive. The caption "it's happening" turns it into the internet's shorthand for watching something big, chaotic or long-predicted unfold in real time, whether that is a game release, a celebrity breakup or a total server meltdown. The mix of glee and impending doom is what makes it fun.
Origin: The animated clip of Ron Paul cheering circulated on 4chan around his 2012 presidential run, where users first used him as a doom prophet. Its party-light edit and the "it's happening" caption became the standard reaction for breaking news.
Also known as: Ron Paul It's Happening, Doom Paul, It's Happening Gif.
How to use the It's Happening meme
The top box is optional and names the event: a leak, a trailer drop, a rumor, a countdown. The bottom box is almost always "it's happening", sometimes stretched into "IT'S HAPPENING" for extra excitement.
Use it the moment something that was long rumored becomes real, or when a situation starts tipping into chaos and you are secretly enjoying the show. It plays best with a short, specific setup, like a single headline, so the reveal of the cheering face does the heavy lifting.
