What is the Laughing Lizard meme?
Laughing Lizard is a close-up photo of a horned lizard turned toward the camera with its mouth curled in what looks exactly like a smug, wheezing giggle. The caption "hhhehehe" spells out that wheezy little snicker. It is used as a reaction to something juvenile, petty or mischievous: a dumb pun, a tiny prank, an accidental innuendo or a plan that only you find funny. The lizard's sly expression sells the feeling of laughing at something you probably should not find funny.
Origin: Nature photographer Casey Myers took the original photo of a horned lizard at Lake Roosevelt in Arizona's Tonto National Forest and posted it online in 2009. The "hhhehehe" caption made it a widely reused reaction image.
Also known as: hhhehehe, Laughing Horned Lizard, Lizard Laugh.
How to use the Laughing Lizard meme
The top box is optional and describes the small, silly or devious thing that is happening. The bottom box is the laugh, usually "hhhehehe" or another stretched-out snicker.
It suits petty victories and low-effort mischief: hiding a teammate's snacks, a typo that turns a word into something funny, or the satisfying moment your rival loses. Keep the setup short so the giggling lizard is the punchline.
