What is the Scooby Doo Reveal meme?
Scooby Doo Reveal is a two-panel scene from the Scooby-Doo cartoon. In the top panel a villain in a white ghost sheet sits tied up with rope, and Fred, in his white shirt and orange ascot, reaches up to pull the hood off. In the bottom panel Fred holds the empty sheet and the culprit underneath is revealed, scowling. The structure is perfect for exposing what something really is: a shiny new thing turns out to be an old familiar one, or a supposedly different product is the same thing with a new coat of paint.
Origin: The unmasking comes from the original Scooby-Doo, Where Are You! series that began in 1969, where nearly every episode ended with the gang pulling the mask off the monster.
Also known as: Let's See Who This Really Is, Scooby Doo Unmasking, Fred Unmasks.
How to use the Scooby Doo Reveal meme
There are four labels. The first goes on the masked figure and names the thing as it presents itself. The second is Fred's line before the reveal, usually "let's see who you really are". The third goes on the unmasked face and names what it actually is. The fourth is Fred's reaction, typically a smug "I knew it" or a deadpan comment.
It works for rebrands, remakes, plagiarism, "new" features copied from an old app, and any case where the disguise was obvious. The surprise in the third label should be something the audience already suspected.
